Question:
I am thinking about getting a PENN fly reel. It seems to be a well made reel. Any comment on the PENN reel? I looked at the Penn 2.5 back in the spring and really liked what I saw, but I wanted the large version (4.0) and they were having production problems. I compared them to a Pate, and a Fin Nor. I like them better than the Pate direct drive because the drag knob on the Pate was part of the handle assembly and it would be hard to make a drag adjustment with a fish running without wiping out your knuckles. I liked the Penn and the Fin Nor about equally, though I preferred the drag knob of the Penn. If they'd been available when I needed them I'd have gotten the Penn (although I am perfectly happy with my Fin Nor).

Answer:
I took some time to look at the Penn reels when I was at the Denver Fly Show...They really look good.
