| Best Aluminum Boats? |
Question:
I am looking at the semi-v aluminum hull in a 14' to 16' boat with a 48" wide bottom at the rear for fly fishing two anglers in rivers and lakes. I have a 10" Valco Jon boat for car topping small lakes.
Answer:
Where you are, I would look at drift boats. Some mount an engine. Saw a guy 2 years ago at Verona during the shad run, with an electric trolling motor on his, and went up and down the current seams with no problem. Get a welded boat, at least 14'. I have a 14 Valco, which has had to have the rivets fixed a couple of times. Advantage is it is light weight, used to car top it. The 14 foot boats do not weight more than a few pounds more than the 12 and 13' but carry 150-250 pounds more capacity. Use a basket at the ends for each fly fisher to strip into. The drift boat will allow some great fishing on the American as well as the Feather. Course I like my big boat, 21' Jetcraft, but it's welded and 0.190 bottom.
