Looking for A Fishing Boat
Question:
Well I've decided to buy a boat to go fishing in because I know all the fish are just out of my reach! I thought I could get some good advice from those of you that had experience with the type of boat I'm looking for. What I want is an aluminum boat in the 16' to 20' range. I want aluminum because of the weight, but for towing and for fuel economy under way. I'm looking for strength and utility much more than fancy looks! I am going to be using this boat in the lakes of Arizona to fish for bass and in the Gulf of California to fish for everything up to Dorado, sailfish and marlin. So I need a design that has some good freeboard and a "V" hull. It must be able to handle the potential of some pretty good chop out in the gulf. I have looked at Starcraft and Tracker. The Starcraft looked pretty good by the Tracker looked a bit cheaper built. What other makes are there along these lines? Please let me know through and e-mail if you would. Also any tips on engines (outboards), which are more reliable, have better warrantees, etc.

Please let me know through and e-mail if you would. My opinion of the tracker boats isn't good... I don't care for them because they're too narrow. In all my looking over the last couple of months, I've decided on a Sea Ark. 18'2" with an 84" beam... and a 115hp Johnson Also any tips on engines (outboards), which are more reliable, have better warrantees, etc. I've always been a Merc person in the past... but it was the consensus in the town I grew up in that Mercurys weren't the best decision when going into salt water. Mariner, Johnson or Evirudes... how much fact this is based in I have no idea.
