| Automatic Fly Reel suggestions |
Question:
I am looking to purchase an automatic fly reel for an 8 weight rod I have.
Will be using it mostly for bass and pike. What model is the most durable and an acceptable price range?
Answer:
Think twice before getting one. They have a low line capacity (forget about backing, there's just no room!).You will have very little control over the rate you reel in the line. For the above reasons, they are not very widely made.
That said, some folks, for either medical or sentimental reasons, continue to use them, and a few companies still make them. I'm pretty sure that Pflueger still makes one, and Wright & McGill probably do too.
