Fenwick Fly Rod
Question:
I was looking through some fly fishing stuff in my garage today when I came across a Fenwick fly rod. It is a Fenwick HMG graphite rod, 2.5 oz, and 7.5 feet long. Can anyone tell me anything about this rod? It has been a long time since I have fished. I remember getting it, but not much else. It says it is for 4 to 5 weight line. I will use it mostly for stream work; I won't be going after bass or anything. Can anyone recommend a good line for this rod? I am very new to the sport and would appreciate any new information.

Answer:
t looks like you have a nice little rod for fishing small streams and rivers. The #4 and #5 tells you what to look for in a fly line. Since you sand you were new to the sport, I would suggest you get yourself a #5 wgt. Forward floating line, a few nymphs and dry flies, and go fishing. The reason I suggested a #5 line is that the heavier line seems to cast better during *my* early days, although this may not be the experience of others. One other thing get a decent reel matched to the wgt. Of the rod. They will balance better and you'll not get nearly as tired casting it.
