| Beginners guide to fly fishing |
Question:
I would like some advice on a beginners "how to" book on fly fishing. Can anyone recommend one to me?
Answer:
Don't take this as Gospel - you should get plenty of entirely different advice but I found "Stillwater Trout Tactics" by Bob Church & Charles Jardine useful.
Also lash out £2 or whatever it costs for the "Selecta fly" catalogue - at least you'll know which fly is which when someone shows you what's catching (you could order a fly selection too at the same time to get you started) Selecta fly advertise in the fishing mags.
Although videos are good way to get the basics of casting and books have descriptions and pictures you can't beat a lesson from a pro instructor!
Finally don't get despondent if you blank a few times and remember that huge numbers of trout get caught each week on Cat's Whiskers, Montanas, Pheasant Tail nymphs and buzzers.
