| Cheaper tackle on online auctions? |
Question:
Has anyone considered, including dealers, selling tackle through online auctions? As the owner of www.auctiontown.co.uk I have to admit that I have a vested interest but even so, all the computer dealers and a number of electronic companies are doing it so why not fishing tackle? I visited the states last year and was amazed at the difference in prices for both tackle and equipment (hand held vhf's etc) if we can show that there's a market in the UK then we could probably attract U.S dealers to post on UK auctions which should start to bring prices down. Like I say, it happens with computers so why not tackle?
Answer:
Personally, I'd rather pay a bit more and get a quality made product whilst still keeping a fellow Brit in a job than buy some mass produced pacific rim product and see the decline of the traditional tackle shop industry as we know it. You might well be able to buy your rods cheaper by auction or whatever, but who are you going to turn to when you need a pack of size 16 barbless spade-ends and a pint of maggots before you set off in half an hour for a fishing trip with your kids? If we insist on getting everything as cheaply as possible by buying it from faceless companies, there won't be a single tackle shop left in the UK.
