| Beginner - Fly Fishing Washington State |
Question:
I am a beginner to fly fishing and would like to know of any rivers or lakes that are good for learning this sport. I live in central
Washington and would appreciate any advice on sites that are local to
Washington.
Answer:
You may want to check out the Western Washington Fishing Report. It has some information on Washington fly fishing now and will continue to focus on fly fishing in the coming months.
One of my favorites is Dry Falls Lake, a fly fishing only, no motors lake at the base of Dry Falls, near Coulee City. Fish nymphs on a sinking line from a float tube or canoe. Trout run to several pounds. Try the cove closest to the Dry Falls cliffs starting on the east side near the put-in location. Even a beginner should be able to catch fish. Borrow a tube...great way to go.
For streams, Yakima River between Ellensburg and Yakima...the Canyon stretch
