| best aluminum boat? |
Question:
What is the best aluminum boat on the market?
Which is better welded or rivet boat?
Answer:
Although I own a riveted boat, I think a welded boat is better. It provides for less drag and better long-term protection from leaking, though this does come at the expense of a little more weight. Crestliner has the best hull warranty in the aluminum-boat industry and it is also the best-selling welded boat. Judge for yourself.
As far as best brands are concerned, I think Lund is generally viewed as number one in riveted boats and Crestliner number one in welded boats.
However, all of the major manufacturers seem to provide basically comparable quality at a given price point. You can buy cheap OMC aluminum boats and you get what you pay for or you can buy their premium aluminum boats and get better quality. Having said that, in addition to Lund and Crestliner, I would rate Roughneck, Smokercraft, Fisher, Starcraft, and Princecraft (not necessarily in that order) as higher-quality aluminum boats with Grumman, Sea Nymph, Lowe, and Spectrum at the lower end.
