| Help! Fishing boats.. |
Question:
I have been looking at fishing boats, in particular the Fisher 16 Pro
Avenger SC, and the Lund 1675 Explorer SS. Both are comparable boats, but I keep getting flak from one dealer about the Fisher, while the dealer selling the Fisher admits how good Lunds are. You may be able to see my predicament now. Also, the Fisher has a Merc 40 horse 4-stroke, while the Lund has a 75 horse Merc 2-stroke, and again the Fisher dealer is saying that the 40 will be comparable to the 75 in terms of speed, which makes absolutely no sense. If anyone can offer some help, these boats are only $1,000 apart in terms of price, and I'm really having a difficult time deciding. Thanks in advance for the help!
Answer:
I don't think your really comparing similar boats, and the Lund dealer knows it. (Hence the poor attitude towards Fisher)
Sounds like you’re getting more for your money from the Lund anyway. Not only does it have 35 more HP, but it will be a different type of HP as well.
There's no way your going to pull a skier with that 40HP motor, especially a 4-stroke.
Personally I will never buy a boat that isn't built right where I'm going to use it. I currently own a 16' SC fishing boat that was built in Indiana and
I run it on some bigger water in northern MN and it gets pounded...then it leaks. :(
Compare the hull weights and thicknesses of the two boats and also ask about hull warranties.
I would get a quote on the Fisher with the 75 Merc as well. Then check trailer specs and make sure that either dealer isn't under selling you on the trailer just to keep the price low. Like someone else posted, you need to compare apple to apple. Given the same price, it’s a no-brainer for me.
The Lund is a better boat. $1000 better than a Fisher with a 40HP motor? No doubt. $1000 better than a Fisher with the same motor? In my opinion, the answer is still yes.
