| Fly fishing vacation...suggestions? |
Question:
I am trying to plan what I think of as a limited-fantasy fly fishing vacation.
These are the limitations:
I have a free round-trip ticket to anyplace in the continental U.S. to be used before June.
I prefer dry fly fishing in a wade able stream. I would consider renting a kick boat, though.
I don't mind hiking one or two miles, but I don't want to camp.
I will need to rent a car and find inexpensive accommodations. I don't want to drive long distances.
I can handle cool, rainy weather, but I don't want to have to fish in a snowstorm or pick ice out of my guides.
I hate combat fishing. I don't need absolute solitude, but the fewer people, the better.
That is pretty much it. In other words, I am looking for the optimum combination of reasonable expense, and good fishing. Any suggestions?
Answer:
There is the Skwala hatch in mid-April, the Western March Brown hatch in
March-May, the Mother's Day Caddis Hatch in early May, the spring
Blue -winged Olive hatch. Don't forget plenty of midge fishing throughout that time frame. I would definitely not consider trying to come in the last half of May. That is typically the beginning of runoff.
