Any good fly fishing in Oregon in late March?
Question:
I'll be heading out to Eugene, Oregon the last week of March. I'd appreciate any advice on where to fish. Is the Mackenzie any good then? How about the Umpqua? (Or maybe some coastal streams, like the River Why...) Also, any ideas on what it would cost to hire a drift boat and guide for the day on the Mackenzie?

Answer:
Check with the Caddis Fly shop before your outing - 541-342-7005. Possibly a bit early for the Steelhead, but possibilities exist in the McKenzie. Check local regulations. I believe the trout season opens March 31. Umpqua should be promising. Possibility of hitting the spring Chinook run. Ask the Eugene fly shop about the areas near Idleyld. Locals are tight lipped (and rightly so) about good steely runs.
