| Fly Fishing Help - What to Buy?? |
Question:
My wife and I would like to fly fish. Any help with equipment and info on what would be the best to purchase? Also ball park prices on what we need to get started. We love to fish and fly fishing looks like it would be fun. We live No. CA and fish in the rivers now.
Answer:
If there is a specialist FF store where you live or where you fish, and you think the staff trustworthy, place yourself in their hands. You can get for less than $150 a good quality outfit that will last indefinitely
(except for the line) e.g. Fenwick or Berkley rod and Martin reel.
If there are no store, get catalogues from Cortland, Orvis and L.L. Bean, and buy one of their packaged sets that seems to suit your sort of local fishing. Sets range in price from $150 up to $600 and you can see from the catalogues how the components vary. Top-priced rods come with a 25-year guarantee.
