Saltwater fly reel
Question:
I am looking for a fly reel WF9/200 yds of 20 lbs for light saltwater fishing. K & K Fly fishers' Supply currently has the Ross GS and the Lampson LP on sale. Both reels are made from bar stock aluminum and big enough for saltwater fly fishing. Any comments on any other reels that can be used for saltwater fishing are welcome.

Answer:
I have three Ross Gunnison reels, a G-2, G-3, G-4. I like them very much. They seem to perform in salt quite well. I think the Lamson and Ross are very comparable reels until you compare the drag. I think the Ross's drag is far better. Like I said, I am a very happy Ross customer. I just went through the painful experience of deciding between a Ross G-4, a Lamson 3.5, and an STH Air weight. I decided that while the Lamson is well machined from good materials, it is too heavy and has what can only be described as a lame drag system. The STH is beautifully made but not highly recommended by anyone other than my STH factory rep. Friday, past, I ordered a Ross G-4 based largely on recommendations our cohorts here on the net. I should get it in within the next 2-3 days. It will be the first time I have seen and touched a Ross G-X.
