| What
to Look for in a Family Fishing Boat/ |
Question:
I'm looking for a small fishing boat for my family. With 2 young kids
a typical bass boat is probably not safe enough. What would you recommend - a deep V? Make and Model?
Answer:
What kind of fishing, and where? I have a 17' bow rider, and I use it for cruising, skiing, and fishing (3 kids, 2, 8, 10). Just got back from a weekend of fishing on Lake Erie. I'd prefer a bigger boat if I always went there. But for the local lakes, a smaller aluminum boat would be fine, and much cheaper with say 50hp instead of the 115hp I have.
My dream boat is the Whaler Dauntless 20 (dual counsels style ), with the new 200hp dfi merc, but I don't have the dollar.... :(
Your choice of a boat should be dependent on:
(1) Usage (fishing, skiing, cruising, scuba, etc.)
(2) Where used (small lake, big lake, huge lake, coastal, offshore, etc)
(3) Number of occupants (and ages).
(4) Available $$$$
I'd never go with a center counsel with kids (not enough shelter), or a bass boat for big water (not enough freeboard).
